Product claims: a buyer’s evidence checklist

Keep wholesale listings accurate by matching product claims to relevant evidence and actual use conditions.

01

Separate a feature from a performance claim

A product that needs no battery has a different kind of claim from one said to remove a specified percentage of an odor. Quantified performance, service-life and health claims require appropriate supporting evidence.

02

Review the scope of evidence

Check the tested model, conditions, date and method. A certificate for a component or another model should not be presented as certification of the whole product.

03

Write for your local customer

Use clear, natural terminology and explain limitations. Do not turn a general odor-control description into an air-purification, disinfection or food-preservation guarantee.
